BRUNSSUM, Netherlands - DODDS-Europe Division II football is far from a two-team race.

The Ansbach Cougars entered their name in the conversation among reigning champion Hohenfels and ousted dynasty Bitburg on Saturday, crushing host AFNORTH 40-7 behind equally dominant offensive and defensive efforts.

Offensively, the Cougars were hardly bothered by the absence of All-Europe running back Dorian Jones. Roger Brownell ran for 83 yards and two touchdowns and Zach Moore and Bailey Ward rushed for a touchdown apiece.

Defensively, freshman linebacker Tyler Benton forced a fumble and teammate Brandon Piccinini turned it into a touchdown for Ansbach’s opening score.

Benton added eight tackles, a safety and another forced fumble, while Piccinini also made an interception.

AFNORTH bright spots included Trent Weldon, who picked off three Ansbach passes in the first half; Spencer Brobst, who rushed 11 times for 58 yards and led all tacklers with nine; and Claudius Karich, who scored the Lions’ lone touchdown on a 40-yard run in the game’s final minutes.
