MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – Robert D. Edgren’s football team forfeited Friday’s game at American School In Japan because the coaching staff felt it had too few players available, school administration officials said Friday.

Coach Michael Gros and his staff “did not think we would have enough players to field a team safely,” assistant principal Emmalie Lee said by telephone Friday.

Asked how many players were available to make the trip, how many players could not and if there were any disciplinary issues, Lee said she could not address those topics.

Edgren does plan to play the remaining two games on its schedule, Oct. 14 at home to Yokota and Oct. 21 at Nile C. Kinnick, Lee said.
