MANNHEIM, Germany — Australia’s national junior team rode Mitchell’s Creek’s 20-point, seven-rebound performance to a 68-51 victory over the German National Under-18 team in Saturday’s title game of the 25th biennial Albert Schweitzer International Youth Basketball Tournament.

Three Aussies joined Creek in double figures. Jackson Aldridge, Igor Hadziomerovic and Hugh Greenwood had 16, 13 and 12 points, respectively.

It’s the first AST title for the Australians, who defeated the U.S. for the event’s bronze medal in 2008. Australia’s previous best finish here was a silver medal after losing to Spain in the 1998 finale.

The game marked the first time a German team had reached the final of the tournament, founded here in 1958. Philipp Neumann led the German U18 squad with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
