Settlement would give vets with PTSD higher disability rating

More than 1,000 veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder would be eligible for a higher disability rating under a proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit, the Associated Press reported.

The veterans, who were discharged between 2002 and 2008, filed the lawsuit, claiming they were illegally denied benefits, the Associated Press reported. Veterans discharged for PTSD are supposed to receive a disability rating of at least 50 percent, but the each of the plaintiffs got less than that.

The settlement must be approved by a judge.
