Frankfurt, Germany, December 10, 1954: Henry R. Luce — founder of a publishing empire built around Time, Life, Fortune and Sports Illustrated magazines — prepares to leave for a holiday visit to Italy, where his wife, Clare Booth Luce, was serving as U.S. Ambassador. Luce was completing a quick tour of Germany that included a visit with Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.
