Air Force One lands at Bitburg AB

Bitburg, Germany, May 5, 1985: Air Force One, with President Ronald Reagan on board, prepares to touch down at Bitburg Air Base. Reagan, who was greeted by about 11,000 people at Bitburg, stirred controversy by placing a wreath at a military cemetery where 49 Waffen SS soldiers were among those interred. But he also joined German Chancellor Helmut Kohl on what he called "a painful walk into the past" to the site of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
