Berlin, June 22, 1990: Dignitaries from the nations that were key players in the postwar saga of Berlin pose for photos as Checkpoint Charlie, the key border crossing between the eastern and western portions of the divided city, is lifted away. In front, from left to right, are British Foreign Minister Douglas Hurd, U.S. Maj. Gen. Raymond E. Haddock, U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III, French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas, West German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze.
