Tokyo, April 20, 1970: Former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey listens to a question during an interview with Stars and Stripes. Humphrey, the Democratic presidential nominee in the 1968 election, discussed a range of topics including the near-disaster of the recent Apollo 13 mission. He said the space program "represents an important part of modern life" and should not be "stopped, hindered or slowed down" by the mishap, in which three astronauts barely made it back to earth after a fuel-cell explosion on the way to the moon.
