B-52 preparation

Utapao Royal Thai Navy Airfield, Thailand, January 28, 1970: A crewman checks some of the 30 tons of bombs that will be carried by a Strategic Air Command B-52 on a mission over Southeast Asia. Thailand was the starting point for the majority of B-52 missions during the war; others took off from Guam and Okinawa. Nearly fifty years after its rollout, the B-52 is still a prominent part of the Air Force arsenal; it was used in the Gulf War and in Kosovo, and most recently during the campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq.
