Kaiserslautern, Germany, October 12, 1954: In the middle of a grueling tour featuring shows in 23 European cities in as many days, singer Sarah Vaughan performs in Kaiserslautern. "Jazz audiences over here are crazy," she said, noting that she meant "crazy" in jazz jargon, as in "wonderful." But Vaughan predicted that the following year, she would be visiting the continent more as a tourist than as a touring artist. "The transportation problems are too much," she said.
