Munich, Germany, August 25, 1972:
Mark Spitz works out at the Munich swimming hall the day before the opening ceremonies of the 1972 Olympic Games. Spitz was hoping to make up for the disappointment of 1968, when he failed to win an individual gold medal (although he was part of two wining relay teams). He ended up with a record seven golds at Munich, but his performance was overshadowed by the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes.
