President Reagan

Pointe du Hoc, France, June 6, 1984: As President Ronald Reagan speaks at the monument honoring troops from the 2nd Ranger Battalion who scaled the 100-foot cliffs there on D-Day, 40 years earlier, first lady Nancy Reagan glances out at the now-peaceful beaches where the allied invasion of Europe began. Singling out the Rangers in attendance at the ceremony, the president said, "These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end the war."
