Erding, Germany, February 14, 1956:
Baseball Hall of Famer Mickey Cochrane makes a point during the annual USAFE baseball clinic. Cochrane, a catcher who batted .320 for his career, told clinic participants he considered Babe Ruth, Rogers Hornsby and Ty Cobb the three best hitters of all time, and placed Ted Williams and Stan Musial as the best at that time. He also had plenty of praise for a 23-year-old player who, as it turns out, was named after him — Mickey Mantle.
