"Dr. Zhivago"

Madrid, Spain, May, 1965: Geraldine Chaplin and Omar Sharif, during the filming of "Dr. Zhivago." City scenes were filmed on the outskirts of Madrid, with marble dust serving as fake snow on the streets of the faux-Moscow. Rural scenes were to have been shot in a cooler portion of Spain, but lack of snow forced a move to Finland. "Dr. Zhivago" was the first major film role for Chaplin, the 20-year-old daughter of Charlie Chaplin, while Sharif was also a relative newcomer to movies but had already won a Golden Globe as best supporting actor in "Lawrence of Arabia." He won a Golden Globe as best actor for "Dr. Zhivago."
