As to the trial of Col. James H. Johnson III (“Still a colonel: Johnson sentenced to reprimand, fine for fraud, adultery, bigamy,” June 15, front page): Give me a break.

I see enlisted soldiers being thrown out of the military for an error of judgment and losing all benefits. Something like a driving under the influence (DUI) conviction results in an enlisted soldier being chaptered out of the military and harassed all the way by his commanders, even when they know of underlying issues.

This guy has knowingly defrauded the government, committed adultery and bigamy, made false statements, committed forgery and disobeyed a lawful order! The result of this is he gets a fine and has to pay back the money he illegally took from the government. He gets to keep his rank, pay and benefits. This is ridiculous! How do you expect enlisted soldiers to see the Uniform Code of Military Justice as anything but an enlisted set of rules and that officers can do what they want and, if caught, get a slap on the wrist? This guy should be stripped of all pay and benefits, then given a prison sentence — something to show the military takes this seriously.
