Doctor injured in stabbing at Memphis VA hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities in Memphis are searching for a suspect in the stabbing of a doctor at the Memphis VA Medical Center.

Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said officers went to the hospital on Tuesday morning after receiving a call that a doctor was stabbed by a patient.

Police said the doctor is stable and being treated at the hospital for undisclosed injuries.

The stabbing suspect fled the hospital and has not been arrested.

The circumstances that led to the stabbing were not immediately released. Police are investigating.

The hospital released a statement later Tuesday, saying it is cooperating with police. The hospital did not name the doctor or provide other details, such as where in the facility the stabbing took place.
