SC juvenile department inks agreement to make urns for vets
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina's Department of Juvenile Justice is signing an agreement to keep making urns to hold the unclaimed cremated remains of military veterans.
On Friday, DJJ is scheduled to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Missing in America Project.
Incarcerated youth in the care of the department and its carpentry program are designing and building urns used in formal interment ceremonies for unclaimed veterans at Fort Jackson National Cemetery and elsewhere.
Also Friday, representatives from the American Legion are riding their motorcycles in formation around the DJJ campus in an effort to show youth safety in motorcycle riding and how to be cognizant of other riders.
