North Dakota's namesake ship delivered to Navy
North Dakota’s namesake ship was delivered to the Navy Aug. 29, according to the military.
The North Dakota is a nuclear attack submarine and is a Virginia class ship. The vessel recently completed trials to evaluate its seaworthiness and operation capabilities, including tests of its performance at test depth, its emergency resurfacing and its propulsion, according to the Navy.
The vessel also completed its first voyage on open seas earlier in August.
When commissioned on Oct. 25, the North Dakota will be the second Navy vessel named after the state and the 11th ship in the Virginia class, the nation’s latest class of attack subs.
