WASHINGTON, D.C. — An overnight storm that left about four inches of snow behind gave a different look to the monuments and scenery in the nation's capital on Tuesday.
Cross-country skiers glided across the National Mall, while runners found the footing difficult as they slid along their normal routes.
At the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the snow that built up on the statues seemed appropriate for a place that remembers the suffering of American servicemembers in frozen locations like the Chosin Reservoir.
Many government workers ended up with a four-day weekend, due to the storm's arrival on Presidents Day. Thei absence from the city was noted by many tourists, who settled for a walk on the Mall when the sights they came to see were closed because of the weather.news@stripes.com
