Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot at Arlington Cemetery
A man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, a spokeswoman said.
The man was found a little after 10 a.m. in section 64 of the military cemetery, said Melissa Bohan of Arlington’s public affairs office. Officials did not immediately release his identity.
The man was found near a tree in section of the cemetery where the Pentagon Memorial, a marker for those who died in the Pentagon or on American Airlines Flight 77 in the Sept. 11 attacks, stands.
Bohan said as far as she knows, there were no witnesses.
A news release from the cemetery said the the episode appeared to be an isolated incident and that the cemetery was remaining open to vistors and families, and that graveside services were continuing as planned.
Chris Grey, spokesman for the Army Criminal Investigation Command, said they are handling the investigation.
