Jury selection to resume for mom in child's death

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 28, 2014

ABILENE, Texas — Jury selection was to resume in the trial of a West Texas woman who says her military husband's deployment overseas left her too stressed to care for their three children, including a 22-month-old daughter who died.

Attorneys were set to continue speaking with potential jurors in an Abilene courtroom on Tuesday in the case of 23-year-old Tiffany Klapheke. Jury selection began Monday.

She's charged with injury to a child in the August 2012 death of Tamryn Klapheke, who died of malnutrition and dehydration.

If convicted, Klapheke could receive a sentence of up to life imprisonment.

Airman Thomas Klapheke divorced his wife. The state has temporary conservatorship with their father granted restrictive custody.
