Fairbanks police find soldier dead in apparent motel suicide

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Fairbanks police found a Fort Wainwright soldier dead Saturday of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Fairbanks motel room, according to police.
Pvt. Ryan Christopher Brewton, 21, was a human resources specialist, said a statement from the U.S. Army Alaska on Tuesday.
He was assigned to Headquarters Troop, 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, part of U.S. Army Alaska's 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, the Army said.
Brewton entered the Army in February 2013 from Ludowici, Ga., and attended training in Fort Jackson, S.C., the Army said.
He arrived in Alaska in August 2013.
