Civil War re-enactment to be held in Calif. ceremony

MARIPOSA, Calif. — The Las Mariposas Civil War group, in partnership with the American Civil War Association will present the eighth annual Civil War Days in Mariposa on April 12 and 13. The event will be held at Long’s Mariposa Ranch.

Visitors can tour the military and civilian encampments and see firsthand how life was during this trying time in American history.

Walk through the town of Longville and see how the war touched the day-to-day lives of civilians.

On April 12 there will be three battles: noon, 3 p.m. and an evening battle at 7.

There will be guided tours of all the camps prior to the evening battle with a dance and a dessert social following the battle.

See the soldiers prepare for battle, then watch as the muzzle flashes from the rifles and cannon light up the battlefield.

On April 13, come out and celebrate Palm Sunday with the group as they gather in Longville at 9:30 a.m. followed by an Easter Egg hunt for the children.

The final battle of the weekend will take place at 1 p.m.
