Army amends record of reservist suspected in murder-suicide
The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot
Dennie Black, an Army reservist who police said shot and killed his wife last week before shooting himself at their Virginia Beach condo, made only one overseas deployment during his military career.
It previously was reported that Black served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before deploying to Kuwait last year. The service record provided by the Army, however, contained erroneous information, according to Master Sgt. Michael Chann, a spokesman for the Army's Human Resources Command.
Black, who had recently been promoted to captain, deployed once to Kuwait. He was mobilized stateside in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but did not spend time in those countries, Chann said this week.
Witnesses said Tammy Black sought a protective order against her husband on Dec. 22, hours before he shot and killed her and himself at the condo they had shared off Shore Drive.
