U.S. Army Europe names 2011 Best Warrior Competition top NCO, soldier

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – U.S. Army Europe has named its NCO and soldier of the year, who will represent USAREUR at a Department of the Army-level Best Warrior Competition.
Sgt. James Byrnes, from the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, and Pfc. Travis Williams, from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, competed with 16 other noncommissioned officers and soldiers at the 2011 USAREUR Best Warrior Competition in Grafenwöhr that challenged their military knowledge, warrior skills and endurance.
Byrnes, a 23-year-old military policeman from Green Bay, Wis., and Williams, a 19-year-old infantryman from Philomath, Ore., will compete with NCOs and soldiers from Army commands around the world Oct. 2-8 at Fort Lee, Va.
