Two US airmen involved in alleged assault in K-Town nightclub

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Two U.S. airmen were involved in an alleged assault at the Nachtschicht nightclub in Kaiserslautern early Sunday morning, Ramstein base officials confirmed Tuesday.

Air Force Security Forces personnel responded to a call at 5:15 a.m. from German police, who reported the assault, base spokesman Juan Melendez said.

According to preliminary information from German police and the 569th U.S. Forces Police Squadron at Vogelweh, a local national struck an airman and in turn was assaulted by another airman, according to Melendez.

The local national was a 22-year-old man from Bad Dürkheim, according to a news release from the Kaiserslautern police. The man received punches and knee blows to his face and had to be hospitalized, according to the news release. Melendez said no further information was available on the status of the airmen reported to be involved in the incident.

The Nachtschicht is located on Zollamtstrasse, behind Kaiserslautern’s train station, an area where police often respond to incidents of assault and driving under the influence, typically in the early morning hours from Thursdays to Sundays, said Kaiserslautern police spokesman Wolfgang Denzer.
