GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — Carlson Wagonlit/Sato Travel has won back a contract to run 35 commercial travel offices at U.S. military bases in Europe two months after it lost it to another firm.
Sato ran the on-post agencies, which personnel can use to book official and leisure travel, until May 31, when the government awarded a three-year, $6.4 million contract to Tzell-Airtrak Travel Group Corp.
However, Tzell, which uses the name ZTrak Global Travel, pulled out of the deal at the end of July, citing a much higher than expected number of customers seeking face-to-face assistance at the offices.
While Sato Travel re-establishes its operations, onsite agents will only be offering personal services at garrisons for people requiring travel within 48 hours.
Personnel wanting to book official travel with more than 48 hours’ notice should book their tickets online at: www.cwtsatotravel.com. Leisure travelers requiring assistance in Europe should visit www.europe.satovacations.com, Installation Management Command-Europe officials said.
For after-hours emergency and en route travel assistance, a toll-free number has been established: 866-422-9428.
Local transportation offices may be contacted for more information, IMCOM-E said.
