Ramstein, Ansbach, Rota cheerleading champs

The Ansbach Cougars cheer team defended their Division II title at the DODDS-Europe Cheerleading Championships in Wiesbaden, Germany, Saturday, ahead of Naples and AFNORTH.

WIESBADEN, Germany — Cheerleading squads from Ramstein, Ansbach and Rota were the best in their divisions Saturday at the DODDS-Europe Cheerleading Championships, held in conjunction with the girls and boys basketball tournaments in Wiesbaden.

Twenty-five teams put on 2½-minute routines before judges and fans at the packed Fitness Center on Clay Kaserne. The cheerleaders were also rated on their performances at games during the tourney. In addition to selecting the top teams, judges also named all-tournament squads.

Ramstein won for the first time since 2008, while Ansbach and Rota defended their crowns as the top teams in their respective divisions. For Rota it was the sixth straight title. The team won in 2008 and 2009 in the now-defunct Division IV, and made it four straight in Division III.
