JPAC to send team to Philippines to search for evidence of MIAs
SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — Investigators from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command will spend six weeks in the Philippines looking for evidence of about 90 American servicemembers missing from World War II.
The nine-member team will conduct back-to-back investigations at about 20 sites, a JPAC statement said Friday. Team members are tasked with authenticating leads from eyewitnesses, conducting field research and gathering information to determine whether an excavation is warranted.
JPAC is based out of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and consists of more than 500 joint military and civilian personnel. There are more than 83,000 Americans still missing from past conflicts.
