CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Air Force will hold a memorial service Feb. 17 for an airman found dead in his off-base apartment Sunday on Okinawa.

Tech. Sgt. Curtis Eccleston, 30, whose body was found by a friend, bled to death from a cut to the neck, according to Japanese investigators. Japanese authorities completed an autopsy Monday and have ruled Eccleston’s death a homicide. The Air Force and Japanese police released no new information Thursday on the investigation.

On Sunday, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and Japanese police investigated the scene of the alleged crime, a fourth-floor apartment in Mihama an area near the front gate of Camp Lester. The area is popular among servicemembers for its beaches and shopping.

The service for Eccleston, who worked as an air transportation standardization and evaluation program manager for the 733rd Air Mobility Squadron, will be held at 2 p.m. at Chapel One, according to the 18th Air Wing.

By Thursday, a memorial page had been created for Eccleston on Facebook with photos of the airman and comments from friends and fellow servicemembers.
