YOMITAN, Okinawa — Hundreds of mourners gathered Tuesday near Torii Station for the funeral service of a Kadena High School student who died Saturday from stab wounds following a dispute with another teenager.

Edward N. Allshouse, Jr., 17, who was the son of an Army civilian employee and the lead singer in an Okinawa hardcore band called Shores, was remembered as fun-loving and humorous during the memorial in Yomitan. Many were shocked by his death.

Okinawa police said a 17-year-old Japanese suspect was taken into custody on Saturday and could face murder charges after admitting to stabbing Allshouse in the chest with a replica sword early that morning.

Police said the two had a confrontation over a woman.
