SASEBO NAVAL BASE, Japan — Two U.S. sailors from Naval Base Guam have been arrested for allegedly using a fake gun to hold up a man in a casino bathroom stall early Tuesday, Guam police department officials said.

Seaman Justin Miska, 21, and Seaman Michael Mayers, 22, from Maritime Expeditionary Security Group One, detachment Guam, were arrested after security guards at the Liberation Carnival Casino heard shouting from the outdoor bathroom and saw two men running from the scene and fleeing in a vehicle, Guam police spokesman Sgt. Mike Aguon said. One of the sailors was identified using the security cameras from the casino. Two fake guns were found during the investigation, Aguon said.

Both men were charged with second-degree robbery and held on $25,000 cash bail, Aguon said. Miska also was charged with terroristic conduct for allegedly threatening the victim, Aguon said.

“The crimes Seaman Justin Miska and Seaman Michael Mayers allegedly committed are not compatible with our ethos and core values and do not reflect the high standards the Navy strives to maintain,” base spokesman Lt. Matt Knight said in a prepared statement. “The U.S. Navy will continue to work with our Government of Guam partners to ensure that each allegation of misconduct against U.S. Navy personnel is appropriately investigated, and when warranted, remedied through administrative and/or criminal action.”

Naval Criminal Investigative Service assisted in the arrest and turned the sailors over to Guam police custody after a civilian judge issued warrants for their arrest.
