NEXCOM to distribute free phone cards to those under way or forward deployed

NAPLES, Italy — The Navy Exchange Service is giving $10 phone cards to military members who are under way or forward deployed this holiday season.

This is the 10th year that NEXCOM is distributing the cards to those ships with AT&T Direct Ocean Service, according to the NEXCOM release.

Eligible military members include those deployed and away from their homeport, to include Coast Guard vessels, submarines and forward-deployed forces, the release states.

NEXCOM expects to distribute nearly 45,000 free phone cards this season.

Most ship-to-shore calls using the AT&T service cost $.45 a minute, but calls from some ships can go as high as $2.15 or $2.95 a minute, according to the Direct Ocean Service website.
