Relieved Navy commander gets letter of reprimand
NAPLES, Italy – A Navy commander who was relieved in August has received a punitive letter of reprimand for misconduct as part of a nonjudicial punishment proceeding.
Cmdr. Robert M. Brown was relieved of command of the Little Creek, Va.-based Beachmaster Unit Two on Aug. 5 during an inspector general investigation.
Following completion of the Naval Surface Force Atlantic IG investigation, Rear Adm. Dave Thomas held an admiral’s mast for Brown on charges of communicating a threat, misuse of government resources, dereliction of duty, wrongful disposal of government equipment and violation of a lawful general regulation, according to a statement released this week by the command.
Brown received a punitive letter of reprimand for his actions Tuesday, according to the command.
The command IG initiated an investigation into Brown following a July 18 complaint, according to the statement.
Brown is now assigned to administrative duties at Navy Beach Group Two. Beachmaster Unit Two is now led by Cmdr. Steven Hull,according to the Navy.
The Navy has sacked 21 commanding officers this year for various offenses.
