Navy bomb school told to remove 'potentially insensitive' motto

The school where bomb technicians from all branches of the U.S. military learn their craft has been ordered to remove the unofficial motto "Initial Success or Total Failure" from its classroom walls, The Associated Press reported.

Rear Adm. Michael Tillotson told leaders of the school at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., this month that the motto could be viewed as disrespectful to the hundreds of explosive ordnance disposal technicians who have died in the line of duty, implying that they failed, according to AP.

While EOD members are allowed to keep personal items with the motto, some were unhappy with the directive. On a Facebook page devoted to keeping the motto, EOD techs wrote that it reminds them of the life-and-death consequences of their jobs, AP reported.
