Clingan nominated for promotion, new Navy post

NAPLES, Italy — Navy Vice Adm. Bruce W. Clingan has been nominated to be the next triple-hat commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe, U.S. Naval Forces Africa and NATO’s Allied Joint Forces Command, according to a Pentagon release.

Clingan was also nominated for the rank of admiral, the release states.

He is currently serving as the deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans and strategy at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C.

If confirmed, Clingan would replace Adm. Samuel Locklear III, who was nominated in December to be the next head of U.S. Pacific Command.
