Three BCTs to deploy to Afghanistan
Three brigade combat teams will deploy to Afghanistan this winter as part of a scheduled rotation of forces, the Defense Department announced Friday.
The deploying units -- two infantry BCTs and one armored BCT -- comprise roughly 9,700 personnel, DOD said.
The BCTs that will deploy are:
- 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
- 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
- 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.
