As U.S. military exits Iraq, contractors set to enter
As a U.S. Army helicopter brigade prepares to leave Baghdad as scheduled in December, the fleet of pilots and machine gunners taking its place next year will be from the Virginia-based DynCorp International, NPR reports.
Same for ground forces, where soldiers and Marines will be replaced by contractors hailing from companies like Aegis Defense Services and Global Strategies Group, according to NPR.
All U.S. combat forces are scheduled to leave Iraq by year's end. Security needs will be met by contractors. Already, the State Department is approving contracts, but there are questions about whether it makes sense to turn over this security job to private companies.
