Four Italian soldiers injured in ambush in Afghanistan

BAKWA, Afghanistan -- Four Italian soldiers were injured and an Afghan soldier was killed in an ambush Thursday by insurgent gunmen south of the western city of Herat, according to military sources.

One of the Italian soldiers injured in the ambush "was in a graver condition than the others, but his life doesn't currently seem in danger," the military sources told Adnkronos, adding that the soldiers' families had been informed.

The troops were out on patrol in Siav village in Herat province's Bakwa district when they came under insurgent fire some 20 kilometres from their base.

The soldiers were receiving treatment at a military hospital in Farah.

Two American troops were killed in southern Uruzgan province by a man wearing a police uniform, a spokesman for the Nato-led ISAF force said, the latest of 53 coalition soldiers be killed i so-called “green on blue” attacks.
