2 US soldiers die after vehicle hits IED in Afghanistan

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A Sembach-based soldier was one of two troops who died of injuries sustained when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Ghazni province in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced.

Sgt. Dick A. Lee Jr., 31, and Staff Sgt. Brandon F. Eggleston, 29, died Thursday, the DOD said in a news release.

Lee, of Orange Park, Fla., was assigned to the 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command in Sembach, the DOD said.

Eggleston, of Candler, N.C., was assigned to 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, N.C., the DOD said.
