Memorial service set for soldier killed in Afghanistan

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – A memorial service for Staff Sgt. James R. Ide V will be held Sept. 9, at 10 a.m., in the Vogelweh chapel.

Ide, 32, died Sunday from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire near Hyderabad, Helmand province, Afghanistan, 21st Theater Sustainment Command officials said.

He was assigned to the 230th Military Police Company at Sembach Annex, Germany, since November 2008.

He deployed as a specialized search dog handler in April as part of Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan.

Ide was from Festus, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Mandy; their 1-year-old son, James, and their 7-year-old daughter, Trinity, of Miesau, Germany.
