The engine on one of the two Navy patrol craft was broken before it ever left port. The crews had failed their most recent navigation exams. The radios weren’t working. None of the 10 sailors on either vessel had ever done a mission this long. They were sent anyway.
The Marine Corps is investigating about 15 drill instructors and leaders at Parris Island in a hazing and abuse probe related to the death of a recruit at the South Carolina training depot, the service said late Wednesday.
