Yuma-area residents and winter visitors are invited to the 2013 Marine Corps Air Station Yuma Airshow. The annual event showcasing the military's finest will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 9.
This year's theme will be, "Saluting our brave and time-honored Korean and Vietnam War Veterans."
Including hair-raising stunts performed by civilian pilots, the airshow will feature an F-22 Raptor demonstration and "Planes of Fame," a high-energy Korean War demonstration including pyrotechnics.
On the flightline, visitors will be able to observe static military displays, including both aircraft and mechanized assault vehicles, and purchase refreshments and other goods.
There is no cost to attend the airshow, one of the largest annual events in the Yuma area. There will be free parking available to attendees as well.
According to officials, the free parking area has been streamlined this year to prevent complications, such as the long lines and sluggish transportation experienced during the 2012 airshow.
"We have revamped our traffic and parking plan to make entering and exiting the airshow area very smooth," the MCAS Yuma Airshow team stated.
"If you would like to take advantage of the free parking area, please note that this area is approximately 2 miles from the flightline and will have shuttles to and from the flightline and the free parking area."
Parking areas closer to the flightline are available for a fee. Spaces in the "Silver Preferred" parking area are $10 each. Spaces in the "Blue Preferred" parking area, the closest to the flightline, are $15 each.
During the airshow, special viewing areas on the flightline will be available, also for a fee.
"All-for-sale seating areas will provide a great view of the airshow," the MCAS Yuma Airshow team stated.
Tickets for grandstand seating, which is not reserved in advance and is occupied on a first-come, first-served basis, are $5 each for everyone older than 6.
Reserved seats located in front of the grandstands are $7 each.
"This area is no longer a free-for-all, so when you purchase a ticket to the reserved seating area, you can also choose the seats you are purchasing," the MCAS Yuma Airshow team stated.
Seats in private viewing chalets along the runway cost $15 each for children ages 6 to 12 years old and $50 each for those 13 and older. The chalets will be catered by the Quechan Casino Resort. Beverages will be supplied throughout the airshow.
All profits generated from preferred parking and special viewing area sales during the airshow will be used to support programs and activities for the Marines, sailors and their families stationed at MCAS Yuma.
