Investigation: Air Force punished Dover whistleblowers

Air Force officials at the military mortuary in Dover, Del., illegally punished four civilian workers for blowing the whistle on the mishandling of war remains, according to a report released Tuesday by the Office of Special Counsel.

The officials — one military and two civilian — were not named.

Air Force Secretary Michael Donley called reprisals against whistleblowers unacceptable, and said the findings will be reviewed and "appropriate action" taken.

The whistleblowers said retaliation included job termination, indefinite administrative leave and five-day suspensions.
