KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — A U.S. soldier was killed and three others injured when their car veered off the highway near Kaiserslautern and overturned early Saturday morning, German police and U.S military officials said.

All four soldiers were assigned to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Lt. Col. Wayne Marotto, public affairs officer for the 21st TSC, said in an email. The identity of the soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, he said. German police said the soldier was 20 years old.

The other three soldiers were in the hospital, Marotto said. There was no word on their condition.

German police said the car was en route toward Kaiserslautern on the A63 traveling in the left lane, when it veered right, ran off the road and overturned. The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m., police said.

The soldier who was killed was a passenger, according to the police.

The accident was being investigated by U.S. and German authorities, Marotto said.
