NAPLES, Italy — The Navy relieved the commander of its base hospital in Rota, Spain, on Monday, according to a news release.
Capt. Michial S. Warrington was removed from his post following an investigation that substantiated charges of “unprofessional behavior,” according to the Navy release, which provided no further details. Rear Adm. Terry Moulton, commander of Navy Medicine East in Portsmouth, Va., made the decision to relieve Warrington.
The hospital’s executive officer, Capt. Todd Wagner, will act as hospital commander on an interim basis, according to the release. Warrington was reassigned to Navy Medicine East headquarters.
Moulton stressed that care at the naval hospital would remain unchanged despite the move.
Naval Station Rota, on Spain’s Atlantic Coast, is growing in support of U.S. ballistic missile defense patrols across European waters. Two guided-missile destroyers arrived at the base for permanent stationing last year, and another two are scheduled to arrive this year.
The four ships are expected to add roughly 1,200 sailors and personnel, along with 1,800 family members, according to base officials.
