WWII-era bomb defused near Pulaski Barracks in K-town
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Eight buildings on Pulaski Barracks temporarily were evacuated Tuesday afternoon while a World War II-era bomb discovered in the ground near the Army post was defused, an Army official said.
Believed to have been dropped by a plane during the war, German workers found the 125-kilogram bomb buried a few weeks ago in the woods just off post, said Mark Heeter, a U.S. Army Garrison Kaiserslautern spokesman.
The device was situated roughly 200 meters south of Pulaski Barracks, where the USAG Kaiserslautern headquarters is located. As a precaution, the headquarters and several other buildings closest to the site were evacuated, Heeter said.
German bomb experts took about 30 minutes to defuse the ordnance, Heeter said. No one was injured.
