GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — AFN Europe will turn off its 873 AM transmitter Friday as a cost-savings measure, the military broadcaster said.

One of two transmitters serving Wiesbaden Army Airfield, 873 AM carries AFN’s “Power Network,” a mixture of news, talk and political commentary. The second transmitter, 98.7 FM, carries AFN “The Eagle,” with music and community news, and will continue to broadcast, according to AFN.

The AM transmitter, located in Weisskirchen, Germany, was singled out due to its isolation and cost of upkeep, the broadcaster said in a statement.

Listeners can find two shows from the Power Network, Morning Newswatch and Afternoon Newswatch, on the broadcaster’s Internet streaming site, AFN 360. Those with AFN decoders can also find Power Network shows on their box.

AFN said it anticipates other savings measures throughout the year.
