Europe briefs: Sigonella student receives $5,000 savings bond

Delana Smith, daughter of Lt. j.g. Danny Smith and Lawanda Smith, received a $5,000 savings bond from Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily, through the Navy Exchange’s A-OK award program. Delana maintained a B average in her school work, and is Sigonella’s 14th winner since the beginning of the program in 1997. NAS Sigonella Exchange has awarded $46,000 in savings bonds to students attending the base’s Stephen Decatur School.

Spangdahlem airman pleads guilty to cocaine use

An airman from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, pleaded guilty at a special court-martial to using cocaine, according to base officials.

Senior Airman Nathaniel D. Magnine of the 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron was sentenced to 110 days’ confinement and reduced to the lowest enlisted grade, E-1, according to a 52nd Fighter Wing news release. He also must forfeit two-thirds of his pay for four months.

Magnine was also charged with two counts of using Ecstasy, but the charges were withdrawn after arraignment.
