KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Four teachers from Europe are in the running for Department of Defense Education Activity Teacher of the Year honors for school year 2014-15.
All of the educators were named teacher of the year for their respective districts in Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Europe, school officials announced Friday.
They are: Sara Loomis, an educational technologist from Kaiserslautern Elementary School, Kaiserslautern District; Kristina Muñoz, a third grade teacher from Aviano (Italy) Elementary School, Mediterranean District; Daisy Alegre-Cruz, an Advanced Placement psychology teacher from Lakenheath High School, Isles District; and Louise Thompson, a first/second grade multi-age teacher from Ansbach Elementary School, Bavaria District.
“I want to extend my congratulations to these four highly qualified instructors,” said Nancy Bresell, DODDS-Europe director. “It is an incredible honor to be selected and is a testament to their professionalism and dedication to our students. They are shining examples and representative of all teachers we have here in Europe.”
Teachers may be nominated by a peer, administrator, parent, student or community member. In the fall, a panel from DODEA headquarters will choose an overall Teacher of the Year for 2014-15, among district teacher finalists submitted from Europe, the Pacific and the United States. That winner will compete for National Teacher of the Year honors.
